Walter G. Shepard, Jr.

Walter G. Shepard, Jr., 78, of Cincinnatus, NY, passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2011, at the Crown Center Home for Nursing and Rehabilitation, Cortland, NY.

Mr. Shepard was born in North Pharsalia, NY on October 28, 1932, a son of the late Walter and Mildred Whitcomb Shepard. A lifelong resident of the area, he retired from Coventry Transport after several years of service. Prior to that, he delivered petroleum products for Agway Energy. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Alice Little Shepard, of Cincinnatus; and his children, Larry (Kathy) Shepard and Pamela Shepard, all of Cortland, and David (Marie) Shepard of Pickens, SC. He also leaves behind his sisters, Irene McQueen of Lyons, Alleen (Gerald) Barber of Palmyra, Eileen VanGorder of Oregon, and Beverly Jones of Sherburne; sisters-in-laws, Annette Dion of Syracuse and Janet Shepard of Arizona; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Meldon and Everett Shepard.

Funeral services will be held at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY on Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. with Fred M.S. Downs officiating. Burial will be in Cincinnatus Cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 12:00 noon until the start of the service at 1:00 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mr. Shepard may be directed to Catholic Charities, 33-35 Central Avenue, Cortland, NY 13045.
