Stephen A. Loomis, 72, of South Otselic, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 23, 2016, at his home.
Born in DeRuyter, NY, on December 30, 1943, Steve was the son of the late Ashville and Dorothea Wothe Loomis. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having proudly served during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a member of the South Otselic American Legion Post #973 and the Free and Accepted Masons. Prior to its closing, he attended St. James Episcopal Church in North Pitcher. Steve enjoyed researching his many interests in life and took a fond interest in following politics, inventing, and writing poetry, to name a few. A true farmer-at-heart, Steve cherished his family and especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joette Moore Loomis; and his sons, Todd (Leslie Smith) Loomis and Damon (Veronica) Loomis, all of McDonough. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; siblings, Kareen Gibbon of Plymouth, Richard (Claudia) Loomis of Morrisville, Mary (Salvatore) Maggio of Rehoboth Beach, DE, and David (Kai) Loomis of North Pitcher; brother-in-law, Richard (Janice) Moore of South Otselic; sister-in-law, Penny (Peter) Horning of Dundee, FL; a close friend, Paul Carson, of South Otselic; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Robert Loomis.
A memorial service will be held at later date and time. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Steve may be directed to the South Otselic American Legion Post #973, 167 Valley View Rd., S. Otselic, NY 13155.
