Ruth T. Diaz

Ruth T. (Smith) Diaz, 101, of Cincinnatus, NY, passed away on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, at the Cortland Regional Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Cortland, NY.

Born in the Town of Taylor, NY, on January 18, 1920, Ruth was the daughter of the late Walter and Minnie Monroe Smith.  A lifelong resident of the area, she was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Cincinnatus.  She retired from Victory Markets, Cincinnatus, in 1982 after 23 years of dedicated service.  Ruth was an avid golfer and fantastic bowler who enjoyed playing cards with her friends.  She was a member the Knickerbocker Country Club and the Seven Valley Golf League.

She is survived by her children, Joe Diaz of Cincinnatus, Sally Diaz of Savona, Ruth (Mike) Credno of Baldwinsville, and Jimmie Diaz of San Francisco, CA.  She also leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Violet Tracey and Metta Diaz, both of Cincinnatus; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Joe Diaz, in 1982; and brothers, Robert, Louis, and Lloyd Smith.

Funeral services will be held at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY, on Saturday, March 27, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. with Fred M.S. Downs officiating.  Burial will be in Taylor Rural Cemetery.  The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the start of the service at 1:00 p.m.  NYS Covid-19 guidelines will be followed.  Masks must be worn and social distancing will be in place.  Expressions of sympathy in memory of Ruth may be directed to the Cincinnatus Emergency Squad, c/o Elaine Oros, 5771 McFarlane Road, Cincinnatus, NY 13040.
