Russell H. Thompson, 82, of Solon, NY, passed away on December 25, 2024, at his home.
Russell was born in Lansing, NC, on October 12, 1942, the son of the late Howard and Lessie Goss Thompson. He was a dedicated and hardworking individual whose career spanned many years in manufacturing. Russell began his professional journey with Smith-Corona, where he was employed until the company’s closure. He then transitioned to the Cortland Line Company, where he manufactured fishing line until his retirement. His commitment to his work was evident throughout his career, earning him the respect of his colleagues.
Outside of his work life, Russell had a passion for fishing, which allowed him to connect with nature and spend time with friends. He also enjoyed the annual Money Mania Event at the Moravia Fire Department, where he cherished moments with his daughter and friends.
Russell is survived by his beloved daughter, Paula (David) Bilodeau of McGraw; his granddaughter, Andrea Bilodeau; his grandson, Andrew (Kimberly) Bilodeau; and his great-grandchildren: Logan James Hotaling, Lucas Russell Hotaling, Scarlet Grey Bilodeau, and Ashton David Bilodeau. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Grace Vencell, Arlene Poe, and Dorothy Ham.
A celebration of Russell's life will be held at the Solon Sportsman Club on Saturday, January 18, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. As family and friends remember Russell, they will celebrate a life filled with love for family, a great sense of humor and fond memories shared through his hobbies. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
