Ronald J. Nelson

Ronald J. Nelson, 79, of Norwich, NY and formerly of Cincinnatus, NY, passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2009, at the Valley View Manor Nursing Home, Norwich, NY.

Born on June 12, 1930 in German, NY, Ron was a son of the late John and Anna Olson Nelson. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Whitney Point. For several years he worked as a dairy farmer on the Tarbell Farms in Smithville Flats and later worked for the NYS DOT in Bainbridge, retiring in 1982.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine Nelson, of Norwich; his children, Greg (Cheryl) Nelson of Groton, Eric (Dorothy) Nelson of Greene, and Tim (Marilyn) Nelson of Ralston, WY; and his stepchildren, David (Linda) Brewer of Norwich, Roger (Starla) Brewer of Lusk, WY, Richard (Tammy) Brewer of Carlisle, PA, John (Debra) Brewer, Kathy Stoker, and Deatta (Tom) Uecker, all of Dover, PA. He also leaves behind his brothers, Harold Nelson, of Cortland and Richard (Esther) Nelson of McDonough; a sister, Ann Coy, of S. New Berlin; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 16, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY with his pastor, Rev. Ronald Maslin, officiating. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery, German. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Ron may be directed to the Valley View Manor Nursing Home Activities Fund, 40 Park Street, Norwich, NY 13815.
