Richard J. Norton, 68, of Cincinnatus, NY, and formerly of Southampton, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 22, 2012, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse, NY, after becoming ill at home.
Rick was born in Binghamton, NY on January 7, 1944, a son of the late Leo and Stella Norton. Prior to moving to Cincinnatus, he was a police officer for the Town of Southampton, retiring in 1985. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a former member of South Otselic #659 F&AM.
He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Yvonne Howard Norton, and a daughter, Bernadette (Michael) Flynn and family, of Long Island. He also leaves behind his stepchildren, Cindy (David) Hogg and family of Florida, Robert (Julie) Braatz and family of Louisiana, Lara Pizzanelli and family of Long Island, and Robin Pizzanelli and family of Long Island; a sister, Leona (Jerry) McEntee of Apalachin; and a nephew, John McEntee and family of Florida.
In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by a son, Kevin Norton, in 1992 and a nephew, Alan McEntee in 2010.
A memorial service will be held at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY on Saturday, June 30, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. with Fred M.S. Downs officiating. There will be no prior calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rick's memory may be made to the Cincinnatus Emergency Squad, c/o Elaine Oros, 5771 McFarlane Road, Cincinnatus, NY 13040.
