Raymond Lester Preston

Raymond L. Preston, 67, formerly of South Otselic, NY, passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer.  Throughout his illness, Raymond bravely kept his unique sense of humor, with a positive outlook and no complaints.

Ray was born August 5, 1953, son of the late Gordon L. Preston of South Otselic and is survived by his mother, Doris Kenyon Seames, of Tucson, AZ, as well as brother Bob Preston of PA (wife Lorrie) and sister Janice Haines of CO (husband Bob), niece Nicole (Preston) Sofranko and her four children, and nephews Matthew and Mark Preston, as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. 

He was a graduate of Otselic Valley Central School and worked as a talented craftsman, painter, and jack of all trades.   Ray was quite a storyteller.  With his rare ability to find humor in every situation, he entertained family and his many friends with his tales.  He made an adventure out of everyday life.  Locals may remember Ray’s deep bass voice belting out “The Auctioneer” song.  He will be truly missed.

The family hopes to host a celebration of life later this year when the pandemic abates.  Donations in Raymond’s memory can be made to the Valley View Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 57, South Otselic, NY 13155.
