Priscilla Scanlan, 94, of S. Otselic, NY, passed away on Sunday, January 16, 2011, at the Valley View Nursing Home, Norwich, NY.
Mrs. Scanlan was born in Romulus, NY on November 15, 1916, a daughter of the late Henry and Edna Cassidy VanVleet. A resident of this area since 1995, she was a member of the United Methodist Church of South Otselic. From 1937 until her retirement in 1962, she worked as a registered nurse for different hospitals and physicians. Mrs. Scanlan enjoyed playing cards, cooking and baking, needle crafts, and solving crossword puzzles. She cherished her family and adored her great-great granddaughter. A hard worker and a creature of habit, she got along with everyone she knew.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Evelyn Scanlan, of Pitcher; and her granddaughters, Lee Jean (Michael) Stith of Pitcher and Dawn (Wayne Foster) Loomis of S. Otselic. She also leaves behind her great-grandchildren, Jacob, Casey and Elyshia Stith, and Nellie, Ashlyn, and Ryan Loomis; and her great-great granddaughter, Leah Stith.
She was predeceased by her husband, John Scanlan, in 1995; her son, Lee Scanlan, in 2010; two sisters and three brothers.
A memorial service will be held at the United Methodist Church of South Otselic on Saturday, January 29, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Carl Johnson officiating.
