Pamela J. Guy

Pamela J. (Root) Guy, 71, of McGraw, NY, passed away, after a brief illness, on Monday, February 17, 2014, at her home, while surrounded by her family.

Born in Cortland, NY on February 11, 1943, Mrs. Guy was a daughter of the late Albert and Martha Hay Root.  A lifelong resident of the area, she was a 1962 graduate of Truxton High School.  Shortly after graduation, she married Stanley Guy, who predeceased her in 2011.  She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Polkville.  She retired from Cortland Regional Medical Center after 32 years of dedicated service where she began her career in housekeeping and then went to work as a pharmacy technician until her retirement in 2011.  After her retirement, she was employed by Cortland County Office of the Aging where she worked at the McGraw Sr. Center until she became ill.

She is survived by her children, Mark (Darlene) Guy of GA, Barbara (John) Guy-Aldrich of Lake Como and Kevin (Michelle) Guy of Cortland.  She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Jennifer Doolan, Amber R. Guy, Amanda Stevens, and Kristen Guy; her great-grandchildren, Kenadee Guy, and a soon-to-be-born great-grandson; her siblings, Deanna Gower, Sandra Tiffany, Karen Root, Roseletta McCall, William Root, Jeanne Hulbert, Carol Gulini, and Donald Root; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her husband, she was also predeceased by sisters, Beverly Marcey and Patricia Mead; and a grandson, Christopher Doolan.

A memorial service will be held at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY on Saturday, February 22, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. with her pastor, Reverend James Hundley of Emmanuel Baptist Church, officiating.  The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the start of the service at 1:00 p.m.  Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mrs. Guy may be directed to the McGraw Sr. Center, P.O.
