Normina C. Sergent

Normina C. Sergent, 96, of Cincinnatus, NY, passed away peacefully at the Cortland Care Center on Monday, January 3, 2011.

Born in South Otselic, NY on August 8 1914, to the late Oliver and Elsie Gibson Closson, Mrs. Sergent and her husband, Louis, moved from Taylor to a farm in Willet. Together they owned and operated a dairy farm until his death in 1976. In 1981, Mrs. Sergent moved from the family farm to Cincinnatus. She was a member of the Willet United Methodist Church and the Willet Grange #485 for over 60 years. She was also active at the Willet/Cincy Sr. Center and enjoyed gardening, knitting, and crocheting.

She is survived by her sons, Wayne (Bea) Sergent of Taylor and Ray (Cathy) Sergent of Willet. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Grant (Laurie) Preston of DeRuyter, Karen (Richard) Fritts of Marathon, Diane Sergent of Cortland, Debra (Kelly) Bennett of Florida, Kelly (Robert) Burvee of Cortland, Ray (Patricia) Sergent of Endicott, and Sherry (Stanley) Oneill of Marathon; a sister, Gladys Bartlett of North Carolina, 27 great-grandchildren, 30 great-great grandchildren; 3 great-great-great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her husband, Louis H. Sergent, , she was also predeceased by a daughter, Virginia Preston in 2008, a granddaughter, Dixie Preston Myers in 1998, a son-in-law, Bernard Preston in 1998, and a great-great grandson, Aidan Matthew Sergent in 2008, one brother and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY on Friday, January 7, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. with Fred M.S. Downs officiating. Burial will be in Taylor Rural Cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home prior to the funeral service from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday.
