Mark D. Barron, 54, of Marathon, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 12, 2018, at the Cortland Regional Medical Center, Cortland, NY, after one last heart attack at home.
Mark was born in Cortland, NY, on January 7, 1964, the son of Lawrence and Barbara Shepard Hill. A lifelong resident of the area, he had been a self-employed mechanic, a legendary logger, and a big-hearted caring father to one biological daughter and two stepchildren.
After years of working hard in multiple tough, hardworking jobs Mark retired and tried his hardest to provide for his family. He still enjoyed his NASCAR races and his Dallas Cowboys.
Mark loved to sing, be around children, and watch his hero, John Wayne, on his big screen TV. Though being retired became boring and repetitive to him, he always found a way to laugh with his family with jokes, and funny voices.
His support and love for his daughter pushed her to attend online college and make it through difficult times in her life as he supported her through thick and thin.
Throughout the years, Mark became gentler and more caring than his younger self. His only wish was that his daughter be happy and taken care of along with his two dogs, Dozer and Sadie, who were like his fourth and fifth child to him.
He is survived by his wife, Caryl DeAngelo Barron of Wilkesboro, NC; a daughter, Cassandra Barron of Marathon, and stepchildren, Ian Jamelske of Cortland and Sylvia Beesmer of Arizona. He also leaves behind his mother, Barbara (James Lynch II) Hill, of Killawog; a sister, Penny (Thomas Scheinder) Short of Ithaca; a brother, Larry Hill III of Cincinnatus; an uncle, Lloyd (Kathy) Shepard of Willet; an aunt, Shirley (Richard) Ingram of Willet; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, Lawrence Hill, in 1997.
A gathering of family and friends for a time of remembrance will be held at the family home, 1323 U.S. Route 11, Marathon, NY, on Wednesday, February 21, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.
