Madlien "Midge" N. Rice

Madlien "Midge" N. Rice, 93, of Cuyler, NY, passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2017, at the Cortland Regional Nursing Facility, Cortland, NY.

Born in Cuyler, NY, on February 27, 1924, Mrs. Rice was the daughter of the late Orville and Lulu Brushell Bush.  A lifelong resident of the area, she married Thomas LeRoy Rice, Sr. on March 31, 1941.  She had worked at the Cuyler General Store for several years.  In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time with her friends at the “coffee club” in DeRuyter.

She is survived by her children, James (Judy) Rice of Cincinnatus, Ike (Jackie) Rice of DeRuyter, Janice (Steve) Breed of Cuyler, Darlene (Arthur) Brown of DeRuyter, Claudia (Kevin) Barrow of Homer, Duke (Debbie) Rice of Georgetown, and Kellie (Christopher) Bush of Cuyler.  She also leaves behind 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins, including a special nephew, Richard (Judy) Rice of Groton, NY.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband on July 24, 1993; a son, Thomas LeRoy Rice, Jr., in 1941; two granddaughters; and several brothers and sisters.

A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family.  There will be no prior calling hours.  A public celebration of life will be held at the Cuyler Fire Department on Saturday, August 5, 2017, at 1:00 p.m.  Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mrs. Rice may be directed to the Cuyler Fire Department, 4711 Rt. 13, DeRuyter, NY 13052.
