Lawrence "Stub" Dean Harvey

Lawrence “Stub” Dean Harvey, 88, of Cincinnatus, NY, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on the family farm on the Brackel in the Town of Pitcher, NY, on March 12, 1930, Lawrence (Stub) was the son of the late Archie and Velma Brown Harvey.  He graduated from Cincinnatus High School in 1947 and was always proud of pitching the winning baseball game of the ’47 league finals.  He loved baseball all of his life, especially the NY Yankees.

“Stub” lived on the family farm his entire life and loved each and every cow he owned.  He was not very interested in showing cattle but did participate in the 1999 Cortland Classic with some success.  He was honored to be named New York Retired Master Breeder in 2014.  He dispersed his registered Holstein heard in 2010 on his 80th birthday.  He continued to work the fields and sell hay with his son, David, until the present.  He was a faithful Mason for 67 years and served as District Grand Lecturer of Eastern Star.  He enjoyed his family vacations, mostly in Canada, including attending many Montreal Canadians hockey games.

He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Eleanor Gardiner Harvey; and his children, Deborah Gibbs, Dean (Donna) Harvey, and David Harvey.  He also leaves behind his beloved grandsons, Michael Harvey, Daniel Harvey, Jackson (Kate) Harvey, and Kent Harvey.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son-in-law, Harry Gibbs, and his sisters, Joyce Mudge and Edna Harvey.

Funeral services will be held at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY, on Sunday, April 22, 2018, at 4:30 p.m. with Jeanne Angell officiating.  A private burial will take place at the family’s convenience at the Cincinnatus Cemetery.  The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:30 p.m. until the start of the service at 4:30 p.m., with a Masonic service at 3:00 p.m.  Expressions of sympathy in memory of Stub may be directed to Cortland-Chenango Rural Services, P.O.
