Julius G. Oros, Jr., 87, of Cortland, NY and formerly of Cincinnatus, NY, passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2010, at his home, while surrounded by his family.
Mr. Oros was born in Pitcher, NY on May 1, 1922, a son of the late Julius and Rosa Torkos Oros. For several years, he, along with his brothers, owned and operated the Oros Farm in Cincinnatus. A well-known farmer in the area, he helped many fellow farmers get their start in farming. He married Evelyn French on January 30, 1943 and together they served as foster parents to several children for over 20 years. Mr. Oros was a kind-hearted and generous man who will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Evelyn Oros, of Cortland; his children, Carl (Joyce) Oros of Sarasota, FL, Jimmy (Cheryl) Oros of Cortland, Brenda (Bryan) Houck of Cortland, and Jeremy (Kathleen) Oros of E. Freetown. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Phillip Barry, Kelly Geiger, Todd Talada, Rebecca Sealy, Gemma Gibbons, Erica Jones, Jessica Houck, Kaitlin Houck, Joshua Houck, Abigail Oros, Julius Oros, and Kevin Oros; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers, John (Louise) Oros and Louie (Elaine) Oros, all of Cincinnatus; sisters, Margaret (Eugene) LeFevre of Plattsburgh, and Helen (William) Bowers of S. Otselic; a sister-in-law, Ruthella Oros of Cortland; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mr. Oros was predeceased by a sister, Rose Burrows, in 1999; a brother, Joey Oros, in 2008; and a great-granddaughter, Destiny Talada, in 2006.
The family will be present to receive friends at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY on Sunday, January 10, 2010, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Pitcher Cemetery at a later date. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mr. Oros may be directed to the Cincinnatus Emergency Squad, c/o Elaine Oros, 5771 McFarlane Road, Cincinnatus, NY 13040, to the Foundation Fighting Blindness, P.O.
