John S. Harahus, Jr., 66, of McDonough, NY, passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2012, at his home, while surrounded by his family.
Born in Binghamton, NY on February 3, 1946, John was a son of the late John and Zadia Knapp Harahus, Sr. A longtime resident of the area, he served as fire commissioner for the Town of McDonough for the past 14 years.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy Harahus; his sons, John (Missy) Harahus, III of Pittsburgh, PA and Peter Harahus of Binghamton; and a stepdaughter, Susan (Monty) Slack of Cobleskill. He also leaves behind his grandsons, Kyle, Kraig, and Cody Harahus; a granddaughter, McKensi Dyess; and his sisters, Julia Rosa of Unadilla, Zadia Robinson of Plymouth, MA, and Krista (Larry) Cohenno of Willet.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Andrew Harahus and Richard Wood.
A memorial service will be held at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY on Saturday, March 10, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend William Haynes officiating. There will be no prior calling hours. Donations in memory of John may be made to the family to help defray expenses or to the Chenango County SPCA, 6160 Co. Rd. 32, Norwich, NY 13815.
