Jessie L. Moniz

Jessie L. (Underwood) Moniz, 87, of Cincinnatus, NY, passed away on Friday, September 8, 2017, at Crown Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Cortland, NY.

Mrs. Moniz was born in Willet, NY, on February 20, 1930, a daughter of the late Lester M. and Laura McDonald Underwood.  A longtime resident of this area, she was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Cortland.  She had previously been employed at ShopRite in Fort Lee, NJ. 

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Joseph P. Moniz II; and children, Joseph (Anna) P. Moniz III of AZ, Mitchell (Kenia) Moniz of Patterson, NJ, and Linda (Rick) Cantwell of Long Island, NY.  She also leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Marion Underwood and Marjorie (Emory) Underwood Rice; and her brothers, Robert, Mason, and Douglas Underwood.

Funeral services will be held at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY, on Tuesday, September 12, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. with Fred M.S. Downs officiating.  Burial will be in George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, NJ.  The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until the start of the service at 1:00 p.m.  Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mrs. Moniz may be directed to the Cincinnatus Emergency Squad, c/o Elaine Oros, 5771 McFarlane Road, Cincinnatus, NY 13040.
