Janette D. (Cross) Smith, 64, of McGraw, NY, passed away on Thursday, April 26, 2018, at her home, with her husband by her side.

Born in Cortland, NY, on April 29, 1953, Janette was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Dora Christopher Cross.  A 1971 graduate of Marathon Central School, she had been employed as a loan specialist for the USDA until her retirement in 2015.

She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Michael J. Smith; and her children, Joseph M. Favaloro of Columbia, SC, and Meghan Smith of McGraw.  She also leaves behind a granddaughter, Andrionna “Andi” Favaloro; brothers, Richard (Diana Chase) Cross of Hamilton, and Charles (Deborah) Cross of Freetown; sisters, Linda (Carl) Robison of Scott and Bonnie (Harl) Thomas of Locke; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Michelle, on February 28, 2017, and a brother, Steven Cross, on December 26, 2004.

The family will be present to receive friends at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY, on Monday, April 30, 2018, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend John Aukema officiating.  Burial will be in McGraw Cemetery.  Expressions of sympathy in memory of Janette may be made to an organization of one's choice.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to John Hughes of Cortland County Hospice and Palliative Care for his care and compassion during Janette’s illness.
