Irving L. Raymond, 68, of Pitcher, NY, passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2014, at his home while surrounded by his loving and devoted family and friends.
Born in Taylor Valley, NY, on February 6, 1946, Irv was the son of the late Henry and Maggie Fox Raymond. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era Conflict from December 1965 to December 1967. On March 1, 1969, he married the love of his life, Sue Stith. He retired from Cornell University in 2007 after 39 years of service, of which 26 years were spent at the warehouse and 13 years at building maintenance. He was a proud member of the Texas Hold ‘Em Poker Club at Turning Water, where he played many card games with his buddies. Irv remained positive throughout his illness and greeted his many friends and family with a smile. They, in return, developed the expression “Raymond Strong.”
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Sue Stith Raymond, and his children, Melissa (David) Dziwis of York, PA, and Shawn (Danielle) Raymond of Cincinnatus. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Allyson Dziwis, Tanner Raymond, Kaires Raymond, and Kinsley Raymond; his brothers, Fred (Kathy) Raymond of Pitcher, Peter (Joy) Raymond of Texas, Lee (Mary) Raymond of CA; his sisters, Margaret (Bob) Burns of Lincklaen Center and Marjorie (Larry) Banks of Cortland; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by an infant sister, Adah Raymond, and his brother, Francis “Gil” Raymond, who passed away in North Carolina just moments prior to Irv.
Funeral services will be held at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY, on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Will Gallerani and Fred M.S. Downs officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Pitcher Cemetery.
