Ida (Wright) Young, 92, formerly of Willet, NY, passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at the Cortland Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Cortland, NY.
Ida was born in Cortland, NY, on May 11, 1932, the daughter of the late Frank and Elizabeth Hazen Wright. A lifelong resident of the area, she retired from SUNY Cortland ASC in 1993 after ten years of service. Prior to that, she had worked at Smith-Corona for 28 years. She served as a volunteer for the Willet/Cincinnatus Senior Center for many years and had also served as the substitute town clerk for the Town of Willet. She was a former member of the Willet Fire Department Auxiliary and the Willet Burial Association. Ida was also active with the “Day in the Park” event when it was held in Willet. In her spare time, she truly enjoyed doing needle work.
She is survived by her children, Adele Guy of Port Byron, Harold (Barbara) Todd and Frank Todd, all of Arizona, Melony (John) Warwick and John Young, Jr., all of Cortland, and Robin (Michael) Gausp of Florida. She also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, John Young, Sr., on December 11, 2011, and several siblings.
Funeral services for Ida will be held at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY, on Friday, June 7, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. with Reverend Vern Groves officiating. Burial will be in Willet Cemetery at the convenience of the family. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 6:00 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Ida may be directed to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
