Hazel J. Tennant

November 8, 1925 — March 10, 2011

Hazel J. Tennant, 85, of German, NY, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, March 10, 2011, while residing at the Chenango Memorial Nursing Facility, Norwich, NY.

Mrs. Tennant was born in Cooter, MO on November 8, 1925, a daughter of the late Ross and Ena Lorene Wagster Douglas. She was a 1946 graduate of Baptist Bible Seminary, Johnson City, NY. A longtime resident of the area, she was a member of the German Baptist Church where she served as past president of the Missionary Circle. She enjoyed quilting and was active in the local quilting group at Rural Services, a member of the Homer Quilting Guild, and taught classes on quilting at the school. She also enjoyed knitting. Mrs. Tennant carried her deep faith throughout her life and passed her love and faith onto her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, John (Jeanne) Tennant of Cincinnatus, Lora (Aaron) Congdon of Truxton, Cindy (Don) Nogva of German, and Charles (Anne) Tennant of German. She also leaves behind a brother, Charles Lee (Neta) Douglas of Siloam Springs, AK; 15 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Kevin Bays of Willet; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Janet Beth Bays, and grandsons, Christopher Tennant and Jeremy Temple.

Funeral services will be held at the German Baptist Church on Monday, March 14, 2011, at 6:00 p.m. with Reverend David C. Seaver officiating. Burial will be in West View Cemetery at a later date. The family will be present to receive friends at the church on Monday from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., prior to the service.
