Harold W. Nelson, 96, of Cortland, NY, and formerly of German, NY, passed away on Saturday, November 14, 2015, at the Cortland Regional Medical Center, Cortland, NY.

Born in German, NY on January 31, 1919, Mr. Nelson was the son of the late John and Anna Olson Nelson.  A longtime resident of German, he owned and operated a dairy farm in the Town of German for many years.  He had also previously served as the Highway Superintendent for the Town of German for 21 years and a member of the German Town Board for eight years.

He is survived by his sons, Gerald Nelson of Norwich, Robert (Theresa) Nelson of McGraw, and Phillip (Phillipi) Nelson of Georgia; his daughters, Dorothy (David) Young of Hanover, PA and Barbara (Lewis) Young of Tyler, TX.  He also leaves behind a sister, Anna Coy, of S. New Berlin; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Maude Dunn Nelson, on January 15, 2007; a daughter, Jeanette Nelson, on November 30, 2010; and several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY, on Wednesday, November 18, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. with Fred M.S. Downs officiating.  Burial will be in Westview Cemetery, German, NY.  The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the service at 11:00 a.m.  Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mr. Nelson may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
