H. James Cardner, 80, of Cincinnatus, NY, passed away on Friday, August 5, 2011, at the Cortland Care Center, Cortland, NY, following an extended illness.
Mr. Cardner was born in Cincinnatus on September 27, 1930, a son of the late Harry John and Cecile Parsons Cardner. A lifelong resident of this area, he was a self-employed carpenter and farmer. He was a 1951 graduate of Cincinnatus Central School, a former member of the Texas Valley Church, and a member of the Otselic Valley Lodge #659 Free & Accepted Masons.
He is survived by his children, John Cardner, of Cincinnatus, Suzanne Mary Cardner of Rochester, and Angela (David) Leigh Freda of Middletown. He also leaves behind his stepchildren, Scott Stockholm of Cincinnatus, Cheryl Knickerbocker of Cincinnatus, and Cindy Stockholm of Cortland; a grandson, Aidan Freda of Middletown; and much loved nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister, Joyce Cardner Maricle.
A memorial service will be held at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY on Saturday, August 13, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. with Fred M.S. Downs officiating. Burial will be in Marathon Cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., where a Masonic Service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mr. Cardner may be directed to the Cortland Care Center Activities Fund, 193 Clinton Ave., Cortland, NY 13045.
