Gary S. Sweet

Gary S. Sweet, 72, of McDonough, NY, passed away on Friday, August 6, 2021, at the Imogene Bassett Health Center, Cooperstown, NY.

Born in the Triple Cities, on January 28, 1949, Gary was the son of the late Donald and Doris Williams Sweet. He was a member of the South Otselic United Methodist Church. Prior to its closing, he was a member and past treasurer for the McDonough United Methodist Church. He was an avid fly fisherman and past president of Trout Unlimited. He participated in the Otselic Valley Heritage Fishing Day where he would teach about the fundamentals of fly-fishing. He also taught those fundamentals during several jamborees and Boy Scout events. Gary was a member of the Chenango County Grange and was in charge of the fish stocking program for Chenango County.

He is survived by his son, Stephen (Cindy) Sweet, of Richford; and grandchildren, Bradley Sweet of Conklin, Logan Sweet and Carissa Sweet, both of Richford. He also leaves behind his brothers, Bruce Sweet of Oklahoma and David Sweet of Syracuse; a sister, Donna Rodriquez of Coram; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Louise Sweet, in 2007.

The family will be present to receive friends at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY, on Tuesday, August 10, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. with his pastor, Reverend Melanie Simmons, officiating.
