Garry R. Standish, Sr., 53, of McDonough, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 1, 2018.
Garry was born in Cortland, NY, on September 21, 1964, the son of the late Robert and Marguerite White Standish. He grew up in Willet and later moved to McDonough where he met his future wife, Gail Enright. He attended Cincinnatus Central School and was a jack-of-all-trades. Garry could do more with one arm than most could do with two and also shoot one mean game of pool. He was always willing to lend anyone a hand no matter if they were his best friend or a stranger walking down the street. Along with running his saw mill, he enjoyed hunting, camping, and spending time with his family and K9 companion, Tucker.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Gail Standish and their children, Garry (Saundra) Standish, Jr. of Cincinnatus, Elizabeth (George) Hackett of Pharsalia, Heidi (Kyle Hackett) Standish of N. Norwich, and Adam (Leah King) Standish of McDonough. He also leaves behind his sisters, Bernice White of Pitcher and Shirley Shepard of Plymouth; as well as 13 grandchildren; his father-in-law, Ralph Enright; several nieces and nephews, and many very close family friends.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his twin sons; brothers, Charles and Robert; sister, Barbara; brothers-in-law, Floyd Shepard and Joe White; and his mother-in-law, Hazel Enright.
Funeral services will be held at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY, on Thursday, September 6, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. with Fred M.S. Downs officiating. Burial will be in Willet Cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
