Ethel J. Calhoun

Ethel J. Calhoun, 62, of Pitcher, NY, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, April 28, 2016, after a heroic battle with cancer.

Ethel was born in Cortland, NY, on October 24, 1953, the daughter of the late Clifford and Roberta Furman Peterson.  She was a vibrant part of the Taylor Wesleyan Church and loved helping people.  She had a passion for sewing, gardening, and spending time in the Thousand Islands.

She is survived by her husband,  Howard “LeRoy” Calhoun, and her children, Becky (Dan) Prentice, Cathy (Norman) VanMarter, Laura Morak, and Michael (Erika) Calhoun; and her seven precious grandchildren, Christopher, Darci, and Samantha Prentice, Ashley Calhoun, Kaleb Tyler, and Abigail and Emily Calhoun.  She also leaves behind her sisters, Judy (Paul) Miller of S. Williamsport, PA and Donna Elmer of Endicott; her brothers, David (Ellen) Peterson of Canandaigua, Everett “Pete” Peterson of Cortland, Fred Peterson of CA, and Larry Peterson; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Taylor Wesleyan Church on Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. with her pastor, Reverend Peter Bush, officiating.  A private burial will follow at the Pitcher Cemetery.  The family will be present to receive friends at the church on Tuesday, prior to the service, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Expressions of sympathy in memory of Ethel may be directed to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
