Ernest George “Corky” Dykeman, 59, of Cortland, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 4, 2014, in Farmington Hills, MI.
Corky was born in Cortland, NY on December 7, 1954, the son of the late Walter and Louise Bishop Dykeman. A longtime resident of the area, he was a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers. He had worked at Intertech for 33 years before beginning employment as a Sr. Regulations Engineer with North American Lighting in Farmington Hills, MI. Corky was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching the NY Yankees and the NY Giants and also following local Cortland County high school sports. Most important to Corky was his family. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, he will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Miller Dykeman, and his children, Sarah (Douglas Williams) Young of Tuscaloosa, AL and Luke (Lynn) Young of Erie, PA. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Jena and Devon Young of Erie, PA; a brother-in-law, Charles Yager of Pitcher; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his siblings, Bruce and David Dykeman, Darlene Yager, and Dianne Roher.
Funeral services will be held at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY, on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. with Fred M.S. Downs officiating. Burial will be in Pitcher Cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Corky may be directed to the Cortland City Youth Bureau, 35 Port Watson St., Cortland, NY 13045.
