Eleanor Harvey

Eleanor Harvey, 94, of Cincinnatus, NY, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, August 11, 2024.

Eleanor was born in Philadelphia, PA, on August 24, 1929, to the late Harold and Lillian (Valinis) Gardiner.  She moved to Willet and graduated from Cincinnatus Central School in 1947.  After high school, she worked for Bell Telephone Company as an operator, married Lawrence "Stub" Harvey, and had three children.  She then decided to go to SUNY Cortland and received her teaching degree.  She taught Jr. and Sr. High School English at Cincinnatus Central School until her retirement in 1988.  After her retirement she worked as the Curriculum Coordinator and as a substitute teacher for several years.  She loved tending to her flower gardens, playing golf and cards with her friends and traveling with family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Deborah Gibbs of Minoa, Dean (Donna) Harvey of Cortland, and David Harvey of Cincinnatus.  She also leaves behind four grandsons, Michael Harvey, Daniel (Jiyoung) Harvey, Jackson (Kate) Harvey, and Kent Harvey; and her two great-granddaughters, Julia and Elle.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Stub, and her son-in-law, Harry Gibbs.

Memorial services for Eleanor will be held at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY, on Friday, August 23, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor George Carruth officiating.  The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. until the start of the service at 7:00 p.m.  Expressions of sympathy in memory of Eleanor may be directed to Cortland-Chenango Rural Services, P.O.
