Donald B. Skinner, 88, formerly of Chenango Forks, NY, passed away on Monday, August 30, 2010, at the NYS Veteran's Home at Oxford, NY.
Mr. Skinner was born in Willet, NY on June 6, 1922, a son of the late Benjamin and Emma Bullock Skinner. He was a decorated veteran of WWII, entering the service on D-Day, and proudly served in the U.S. Army 113th Calvary in Germany. He was a member of the VFW Post in Whitney Point. He was a retired carpenter, having worked for several different contractors throughout his career. Mr. Skinner was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping, and especially enjoyed playing golf.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Katherine Skinner, of Chenango Forks; his children, Kenneth (Marlene Hickey) Skinner, Linda (James) Ward, Sandy (Daniel) McNeilly, and Donald (Christina) Skinner, all of Chenango Forks; his grandchildren, Stacy (Timothy) Joslin of Willet, Dan McNeilly and Lindsey McNeilly, both of Auburn, Trishia Skinner of Harrisburg, PA, Jamie Skinner of Apalachin, and Katelyn Skinner of Chenango Forks. He also leaves behind a great-grandson, Ryan Brown; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by a son, John Skinner, in 1976, and brothers, Clayton and Francis Skinner and a sister, Arlene Wilson.
Funeral services will be held at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY on Thursday, September 2, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. with Fred M.S. Downs officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be in Willet Cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mr. Skinner may be directed to the American Heart Association, Gifts Processing Center, P.O.
