Donald F. Jones, Sr.

Donald F. Jones, Sr., 90, of McGraw, NY, passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Upstate University Hospital at Community General in Syracuse, NY.

Don was born in Leonardsville, NY, on April 22, 1934, the son of the late Alton and Thelma Burch Jones. He was a graduate of New Berlin Central School and received his associate’s degree from SUNY Morrisville. Don lived a life full of dedication, love, and adventure. He enjoyed a fulfilling career, retiring from GLF/Agway after 38 years of dedicated service.

An avid outdoorsman, Don embraced nature with a passion that defined much of his life. He was an active member of the Fish & Wildlife Federation, the McGraw Sportsman Club, and the NYS Trapper's Association. Every moment he spent at the cabin with his family is fondly remembered, as it was a place where laughter and love flourished.

Don is survived by his devoted wife of 70 years, Catherine Meyers Jones; his children, Donald (Patty Curtin) Jones, Jr. of DeRuyter, Diane Eccleston of Cortland, Richard (Christine) Jones of Solon, and Barbara (Michael Bush) Bloodgood of Homer; as well as his cherished grandchildren, Richelle Bloodgood, Matthew Eccleston, Lindsey Eccleston, Brittni Rosato, and Brogan Jones. He also leaves behind four great-grandchildren, Brooklee, Levi, Anderson, and Warren, who brought immense joy to his life. Additionally, he is survived by his brother-in-law, Richard Meyers of Cicero.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Gill.

In keeping with his wishes, there will be no immediate services. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Don may be directed to the Cortland County Federation of Sportsmen, P.O. Box 571, McGraw, NY 13101.

Don leaves behind a legacy of family devotion, a love of nature, and countless memories that will be cherished by all who knew him. His warm spirit and generous heart will be deeply missed.
