Denis R. Holmes

Denis R. Holmes, 72, of Georgetown, NY, passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at the Wilson Memorial Hospital, Johnson City, NY, following an extended illness.

Born in Peekskill, NY, on May 20, 1951, Denis was the son of the late Clifford and Beatrice Zeliph Holmes.  He retired from Polich Tallix in Rock Tavern, NY, in 2019 where he had worked as a welder for 43 years.  In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time being a gentleman’s farmer and raising black angus.  He had a passion for restoring antique cars and tractors and was an accomplished bronze sculptor.  He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be dearly missed by those who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Alice Lubbers Holmes; and their daughters, Beverly Orzechowski and her husband Steve and their daughters, Melanie and Julia, all of Oneida, NY, and Valerie Holmes and her husband, Christian Pace and their daughter, Caroline, all of Mahopac, NY; he also leaves behind a brother, Clifford Holmes of South Otselic, NY; sisters, Lois (Frank) Bagala of Hopewell Junction, NY and Edith Benedict of Cortlandt Manor, NY; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Albert Holmes of Georgetown, NY.

Funeral services for Denis will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY with Reverend Will Gallerani officiating.  Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, South Otselic, NY.  The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until the start of the service at 2:00 p.m.
