David B. Ellerson Sr., of Willet NY, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 13, 2024. He passed, at age 69, peacefully in his home, surrounded by family.
David is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Debbie L. (Twombly) Ellerson, their daughter Christina Ellerson (William Chapman), their son David Ellerson Jr. (Sara Posey), grandchildren Leo Ellerson and Nathaniel Ellerson, their adopted daughter Stacy (Aaron) Hall and grandchildren Jadon Starks and Anastasia Hall. He also leaves behind his siblings, Susan Ellerson, Richard (Beth) Ellerson, Leon (Tammy) Ellerson, Kurt (LeAnne) Ellerson, Nina Ellerson, Charles (Teresa) Ellerson and Carol (Jake) Crane, along with 22 nieces and nephews, 24 grand nieces and nephews, and 1 great-grandnephew.
David was born to his parents, Burt W. and Evelyn G. (Gage) Ellerson of Castle Creek, NY, whom he was predeceased by, along with his brother Wayne Ellerson, sister Peggy Brennan, nieces Joylynn Ellerson, Katelyn Crane, Haylee Poierer and Amy Ellerson.
David grew up in Castle Creek on his father’s dairy farm and graduated from Whitney Point High School. He acquired many trades along the way in order to support his family, all while enjoying his farming and carpentry roots, until eventually retiring from the Whitney Point Bus Garage.
David was a firefighter for Castle Creek, Whitney Point and Willet. He was a cubmaster for Scout Troop 169. He volunteered in many other ways throughout his community. During his later years, he could be found visiting at the local diner, volunteering to work in the fields of a friend or family’s farm, or working on his property. He will always be remembered by those blessed to have known him as a joker. They would say that if he wasn’t picking on you, then he didn’t know you. He loved to talk and laughter was his second language.
Even after rehabilitating from an accident 4 years ago, David enjoyed spending his time with family, going fishing, having barbeques, attending cattle shows and horse competitions, watching the next generations around him and sharing stories of yesteryear. He was always a strong man and did not let much stand in his way. His presence and determination will be missed. His love and laughter will remain.
Funeral services for David will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at the Christ in Christian Union Church, 2687 State Route 26, Cincinnatus, NY. Burial will be in Willet Cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until the start of the service at 1:00 p.m.
