Clarence A. Totman, 86, of Cincinnatus, NY, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2018, at his home, while surrounded by his family.
Born in Cincinnatus, NY, on July 27, 1931, Mr. Totman was the son of the late E.A. and Leta McClear Totman. A lifelong resident of Cincinnatus, he was a 1949 graduate of Cincinnatus Central School. He attended Syracuse Business School and then transferred to the Cortland Business School, finishing with a degree in accounting. He was a member and very active with the First Baptist Church of Cincinnatus where he served as a deacon, taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and served as treasurer for 64 years. For many years he coached soccer and basketball for the Cincinnatus Christian Academy. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict where he worked in the IBM Records Unit. Mr. Totman retired as the Assistant Vice President of the First National Bank of Cortland in 1995 after 40 plus years of service. In his younger years, he had been named to the NYS Section 4 Hall of Fame for his skills in basketball, baseball, and soccer. He was also involved in many other community civic associations, too numerous to mention by name. In his spare time, he was an avid golfer and bowler. The man you saw on the streets was the same man at home – a Godly man guided by Godly principals.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Elsie Connor Totman; a daughter, Sharon (Henry III) Diaz of Marathon; sons, Philip (Rebecca) Totman of Cincinnatus and Bradley (Torri) Totman of Taylor; and a son-in-law, Brian Hull, of Taylor. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Robert (Jaime) Diaz, Heather (Jacob) Preston, Amy (George Nash) Diaz, Jacob (Lindsey) Totman, Kalli Totman, Jared Totman, Brandon Totman, and Nathanael Totman; ten great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Valerie Totman Hull, in 2010; and a brother, Seward Totman.
Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Cincinnatus on Thursday, February 22, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Paul Carlson and Reverend David Seaver officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be in Taylor Rural Cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends at the church gymnasium on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.
