Charles Irving Potter, 72, of Marathon, NY, passed away on Monday, May 31, 2021, at the Syracuse VA Medical Center, Syracuse, NY.
Born in Cortland, NY, on February 13, 1949, Irv was the son of the late Charles Albert Potter and Marion Evans Potter. A lifelong resident of this area, he proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict where he was attached to the artillery unit and worked as a track vehicle and generator mechanic. He retired from Grumman Boat, Marathon, after several years of service. A member of the McGraw Sportsman Club, he enjoyed fishing, shooting, and playing golf.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Cynthia Livermore Potter; and a son, James Douglas Potter of Rochester. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Maura and Adabelle Potter of Rochester; siblings, Doug (Dianne) Potter of Cortland, Marilyn Otteson of Auburn, and Steve (Cindy) Potter of Marathon; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service, with military honors, will be held at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY, on Sunday, June 13, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Will Gallerani officiating. There will be no prior calling hours. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Irv may be directed to the McGraw Sportsman Club, 3154 Ridge Road, Marathon, NY 13803.
