Alice Crossgrove Carrier, 89, passed away peacefully at her home in McGraw, NY, on September 5, 2021.
She was born in McLean, NY, to Charles and Rosella Crossgrove. She was a graduate of Dryden High School. She then went on to graduate from Cortland State after which she began a career of teaching in the Cortland City Schools system. She taught for a total of 37 years; 29 of which were at Barry School and retired in 1990.
Alice was a past member and president of the Nightingales, a member of the McGraw Methodist Church, serving as Sunday School Superintendent and on the Finance Committee as trustee. She enjoyed many years with her good friend, Warren Barth, organizing the Time and Talent Auction.
Mrs. Carrier was a member of the Cortland 20th Century Club since 1990. She served several terms as president, as well as a term as secretary. She also served on the McGraw School Board, and tutored for the adult literacy program through BOCES.
Alice is survived by three children; Kenneth (Jessie) Carrier of Cincinnatus, Gloria Gilbert of McGraw, and Nancy Carrier of North Carolina, seven beloved grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings; Jean Barnes, Donna Crossgrove, Cleone Leete, Esther Powers, and Joe Crossgrove. Also, her faithful aide, Tracey LeDuc, that provided loving care.
Alice was predeceased by her husband, Ralph, in 1983, beloved son-in-law, Kenny Gilbert, in 2012, and brother, Bill Crossgrove.
At her request, there will be no services and memorial donations can be made to the McGraw Methodist Church.
